The Annual Physics Conference by the Taiwan Physics Society will be held in the same university from Tue-14 until Thu-16 January. The idea is to have small THz satellite meeting along side Taiwan’s biggest physics conference.

Taiwan THz Summer Workshop 2025

The 2025 Taiwan THz Summer Workshop will take place at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, from June 26th to 28th, 2025. This workshop series originated in 2023 at National Tsing Hua University, and since then, it has been held five times, demonstrating a growing interest in the field. These workshops are designed to foster discussions on the latest developments and future directions in terahertz (THz) science and technology, as well as their applications across various disciplines. Topics covered will include cutting-edge research in experimental and theoretical approaches related to devices, spectroscopy, imaging, ultrafast phenomena, and communications. Furthermore, the workshop will explore applications from biology, chemistry, physics, material science, and electrical engineering. We invite researchers, practitioners, and students to engage in meaningful discussions and collaborate on innovative ideas during this exciting event.

Travel between the Hotel and Conference Venue (12 minutes walk)

Taoyuan Airport to THE HO HOTEL

Method 1: Taxi (direct)

to the THE HO HOTEL (和選旅) Duration: 40–60 minutes (depending on traffic). Cost: NT$1,200–1,500.

Method 2: Bus + Walk (9 mins)

Take the Bus (#1250, RI HAO BUS) from the Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1/Terminal 2 Stop to National Yang Ming Chiao Tung Stop. Duration: 50 - 70 minutes. Cost: NT$200.
National Yang Ming Chiao Tung Stop, walk toward Daxue Rd for 3-4 mins and take the right turn. Walk for 4-6 mins to the THE HO HOTEL (和選旅). Total Duration: 60 – 80 minites Total Cost: NT$200.

Method 3: Airport MRT + High-speed rail (HSR) + Free Shuttle

Take the Taoyuan Airport MRT (Blue Line) from the airport to Taoyuan HSR Station (A18). Duration: 17-20 minutes. Cost: NT$25.
At Taoyuan HSR Station, take a high-speed rail (HSR) from Taoyuan Station to Hsinchu Station. Duration: 10 minutes. Cost: NT$130.
Take free shuttle* from Hsinchu HSR station directly to the THE HO HOTEL (和選旅). Duration: 10 minutes. *Reserve in advance. Total Duration: 60 - 70 minites Total Cost: NT$155.

Taiwan THz NTU Workshop 2025

楊尚樺教授發起的Taiwan THz workshop，這次輪到鄭宇翔在台大舉辦，時間為12/19(暫定早上10點到下午3點，可參加半場，但鼓勵全程參加)，地點為台大電機二館142室，歡迎大家一起來討論THz相關研究，跟老朋友當面聊，也認識新朋友。報名網址如下，希望來參加的人可以準備10分鐘的研究介紹(並非強制)，若方便可以先提供講題。有其他疑問都可以回信問我，謝謝。

The Taiwan THz workshop initiated by Professor Yang Shanghua is being organized by Yu-Hsiang Cheng at National Taiwan University this time. The event is scheduled for December 19 (tentatively from 10 AM to 3 PM; you can attend for half the time, but full attendance is encouraged). It will be held in Room 142 of the Electrical Engineering Building 2 at NTU. Everyone is welcome to come discuss THz-related research, chat with old friends, and meet new ones. The registration link is below. I hope those who plan to attend can prepare a 10-minute research presentation (which is not mandatory), and if convenient, please provide your topic in advance. Traveling To Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) has connections to about 35 destinations in 10 countries in East Asia, and it is directly connected to the Kaohsiung metro. Hence this is the easiest to travel option if it is available to you.

Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is Taiwan’s biggest international airport with over 100+ destinations in roughly 30 countries. However, it is in the North of Taiwan, hence you will need to arrive to Taiwan’s High-Speed-Rail (HSR) network then come to Kaohsiung. Hence, you will need to go Taoyuan HSR station then take the HSR to Zuoying HSR station in Kaohsiung (ticket is NT$1330). Then take the metro to your hotel. Click here for more info.

Taiwan Metro and buses

Taiwan has a public transport card called “EasyCard” and you can buy it from about 90% of convenience stores in Taiwan. They also come in the interesting designs from popular anime series. Buses in Taiwan have unreliable timings, and DO NOT RELY on google maps timings for local buses! This is has about a 50% chance of being wrong by 30mins.

Kaohsiung metro accepts contactless payment from VISA/Mastercard as well, so you don’t need an EasyCard but no other public transport accepts this (I think).

Taiwan HSR

Taiwan’s High-Speed-Rail (HSR) is quite similar to Japan’s Shinkansen, but smaller and thus less complicated. The trains are literally the Shinkansen 700 Series modified for Taiwan’s climate and safety regulations. Tickets can be bought online by downloading the T-Express App with info here. Pre-booked tickets will guarantee a seat, whereas non-reserved seats will not and you might have to stand (there are non-reserved train cars for this type of ticket). You can also just go to the ticket counter to buy a ticket, and then you get a paper ticket which might be easier for your reimbursement later (otherwise you get a PDF invoice showing price, location and time).

Taxi/UBER

Some Taiwan taxi’s accept VISA/Mastercard, but they will not if they are too old. Also, there is UBER service available all over Taiwan and that is quite convenient but I have never had any luck using the “UBER Taxi” option, they never arrive… The “UBER Eco” always arrives in good time.

Hotel information

For hotels in Kaohsiung, please be close to the Red and Orange metro lines, the light green line is a light-rail system not metro. Taiwan has built its infrastructure for scooters, hence Kaohsiung’s areas away from the Red and Orange metro lines most likely have no pedestrian walkways, which can be a bit hectic…

Hotel Dua is a very good location and the hotel is high quality, however it is quite expensive.

Good Hotel - Minsheng was ok when I stayed in 2022 and cheaper. It was good but about 10 mins walk to the metro on normal pedestrian paths.

Siziwan Sunset Beach resort All the locals say it is really good, but a bit overpriced. And the restaurant is really good but you can only buy a set meal there which costs above 600NTD which is double the price of most restaurants in Kaohsiung, but it has a starter, side dishes, main, dessert and Chinese style soup. It is far from the city though.
